Ladies in White makes an effort to follow a family’s preferences. Some families may prefer the scattering in a spot with open vistas, wild flowers and dramatic skies. Some will choose the silent beauty of a dense forest, or bluff overlooking a high mountain lake. Still others will prefer the proximity of a creek as it tumbles over rocks.
The photos below represent the kinds of areas in which Ladies in White scatters ashes. |
Forests
Forests provide both sunny clearings and secluded spots among the trees, ideal choices for scattering. Smaller groves and thickets offer the same features within a larger panorama. Scatterings occur “off trail” where the only passers-by are likely to be wildlife.

Mountains, ridgelines
Journeys can lead through rugged terrain and into remote areas. A scattering might take place at the base of a mountain, or higher up on the flanks. The Ladies usually avoid mountain peaks as scattering sites because peaks are more likely to experience foot traffic.
High ridgelines, like the one pictured in the foreground, can provide expansive views. Scattering may take place on a grassy ridge, often full of wildflowers.

Lakes, waterfalls, streams, rivers
The proximity of water can offer a peaceful setting with frequent visits from wildlife. Scattering can occur overlooking a lake, near a waterfall or within sight of a stream, but well back from the water.

Meadows, sunny slopes
Scattering may take place in a meadow or on a sunny slope. A particularly beautiful tree, picturesque snag, or boulder may serve as a nearby sentinel or natural commemorative marker. In some locations, wildflowers can be expected to decorate the scattering site year after year.
|
Rock outcroppings
Rock outcroppings can contain some of the same attributes as beautiful rock gardens. Gold and orange lichen may cover the rocks and unusual wildflowers may be nestled among them.
