Ladies in White honors final wishes.

  • Many at life’s end would prefer their ashes scattered in the kind of place that has special meaning. But that place may seem remote and inaccessible.

  • Families may want to honor the last wishes of their loved ones but are unable to carry out those desires. End-of-life wishes go unmet simply because no one is able to fulfill them.

  • Someone who has passed away may not have left final wishes, but his closest friends remember that he often spoke with longing of that meadow full of flowers near his favorite fishing stream out west.  His friends know he would have wanted his ashes scattered there.

Ladies in White fulfills the wishes of
someone who desired scattering in a
beautiful natural area.

Who are the Ladies in White?

Ladies in White, LLC, is a company of women that works to grant the final wishes of those who want their ashes returned to the earth at its most beautiful.  The Ladies are community members from all walks of life, and from a variety of faiths and perspectives.  They are business and professional women; tradeswomen, educators, healthcare workers, office workers and shop keepers; homemakers, mothers and grandmothers.  All are carefully selected for personal qualities of compassion and human understanding, and intensively trained for their work with Ladies in White.

Ladies in White reasserts women’s role in death care

“Before the Civil War,” writes Stephen Prothero in Purified by Fire, “virtually all burial preparations had been done by relatives and close friends of the deceased, notably, wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters.  During the war, however, authority over the dead began to shift from women to men, from kin to strangers, and from home to funeral parlor…”

In part, Ladies in White organized in the belief that families may prefer the compassionate involvement of women in the disposition of a loved one's ashes.
